Mission Statement
The Jail Bureau of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office currently operates three facilities: a pre-trial detention facility that houses approximately 1,000 inmates in downtown Rochester, a sentenced facility in suburban Brighton, New York, that houses 475 sentenced inmates, and a regional forensic unit at the Rochester Psychiatric Center.

Visiting an Inmate
Each inmate housed at the Monroe County Jail and Monroe Correctional Facility is permitted two one-hour visits each week by appointment.

Downtown visits may be scheduled in person or by calling 753-4000 beginning at 8:45 a.m. until all appointments are filled. All visits are scheduled one week in advance; there are no walk-in visits available. Visits will be scheduled on Tuesday for the following Tuesday, Wednesday for the following Wednesday, Thursday for the following Thursday, Friday for the following Friday and Saturday for the following Saturday .

Inmates who have Trustee Status are allowed to request a permanent visit time which will automatically be scheduled each week once they are approved. Permanent visit times are granted based on the availability of space and the inmate’s status.

All visitors must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled visit time. If you are not on time, your visit may be cancelled.

You must have a valid government issued photographic identification to enter the visiting area such as a NYS Drivers License, Non Driver I.D. card or Benefit Card.

  • These visits take place in the MCJ Tower Non-Contact Area ONLY, and are designated for inmates located in the following MCJ Tower Housing Areas: PN, PS, 2S, 3S, and 4S.
  • The entrance to this area is located at the 130 South Plymouth Ave. Security Entrance

Money Window
Money may be deposited into an inmate account, at both facilities, during their posted visiting hours. The service windows are located at the MCJ Property Office located at the 130 South Plymouth lobby and at the MCF Visiting Area window, 750 East Henrietta Road. Cash, Postal or Western Union money orders will be accepted. Checks are not accepted.
